Where to hold a conference in Croatia

It’s no news that Croatia has climbed up to the top of many “must see” travel lists, but perhaps more hidden from the spotlight is the fact that Croatia has also become a popular choice for business meetings, conferences and congresses. More and more companies are choosing to hold their event in Croatia, with most of the 4 and 5 star hotels in the main cities fully booked for many months of the year.

This way the companies running their events give their speakers and delegates a little bit of a bonus, with not only attending a work-related event, but also potentially adding on a few days of personal travel before or after the event.

And what’s more, it’s easy to organise a conference in Croatia with more positive impact than anywhere else, combining the unmatched scenery with great service, affordable fees, venues of high standard in unique locations (such as on cliffs or islands!) and more hidden surprises adding to the event’s success – to start browsing the options, take a look at the top 5 conference destinations in Croatia we have chosen for this blog post:

This town offers an extensive variety of exclusive hotels and congress centres, period buildings, theatres, museums, restaurants and nearby getaways. Some of the possible venues for meetings/conferences/all sorts of events in Zagreb:

Opatija

Opatija, an elegant tourist destination, has the longest tradition of tourism in Croatia. The very attractive geographic position (only about 500 km from Milan, Vienna and Münich), lush green scenery and a pleasant climate were some of the main reasons for the quick development of its tourism at the end of the 19th century. It has well-maintained public gardens, an illuminated 12-km-long coastal promenade known as the “Lungomare”, well-kept beaches and fountains. The contrasts of sea and mountains, green parks and blue ocean, old buildings and modern comforts, noisy entertainment venues and quiet destinations for excursions all combine to make Opatija and its surroundings a very attractive tourist resort at any time of the year.

Opatija offers all the advantages of a major convention destination combined with the charm of a more intimate holiday resort. It’s easily reachable by plane, as the nearest Airport of Rijeka is only 40 minutes of drive away, it takes and hour from Pula Airport to get here, and about an hour and a half from Trieste Airport and Zagreb Airport.

Some of the most fascinating and popular conference venues are:

Liburnia Riviera Hotels

Milenij Hotels

Hotel Mozart

Open Air Theatre of Opatija

Zadar is one special and unique town of northern Dalmatia. Walking through the city some sights will take your breath away like the Church of St. Donatus, the Sea Organ and The Greeting to the Sun. This is a town of rich cultural heritage and exceptional history, irresistible for those who respect and admire historical monuments and works of art.

The city of Zadar is an easily reachable destination by land, sea and air. It has a good traffic infrastructure through which is directly connected to other bigger Croatian towns: Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Dubrovnik. The ferry port as well as the new tourist port for cruisers are located on the peninsula itself (old part of the city), and entering Zadar on a ferry or boat gives you a magnificent view of the whole city, making your arrival in Zadar a unique experience (ferry and ship lines with Preko, Zaglav, Mali Lošinj, Pula and Ancona/Italy). Also, the Zadar Airport is connected with Zagreb and most of the European capitals. This is a town that offers you the possibility to enjoy your business stay as you’ve never enjoyed it before!

Split is also one of the oldest cities in Dalmatia. It is believed that the first inhabitant of Split was the Roman emperor Diocletian who started building his palace around 293 AD, but some recent archaeological findings prove it was a Greek colony several centuries before. This is a town with rich and well preserved history, well known in the world. Diocletian’s Palace is one of the seven UNESCO protected world heritage Sites in Croatia. Split has excellent connections with the rest of Croatia and Europe. The new Split–Zagreb A1 motorway (popularly called ” Dalmatina”) reduces the almost 400 km journey to mere 3,5–4 hours of enjoyable car-ride. Daily ferry lines connect Split and Ancona, and regular and charter flights are available at the Split Airport.

In the town of Split there are many interesting and unique venues that will make a conference or any kind of event memorable. Just imagine having a conference or a meeting in a medieval fortress – here, this is possible.

Galerija Meštrović

Fortress of Klis

Hotel Atrium

Hotel Park

Hotel Radisson Blu Resort Split

Dubrovnik

What to say about the “Pearl of the Adriatic”… You’ve probably heard about this worldly known UNESCO protected town, so there is no need for an extensive introduction. It’s a fascinating and remarkably well-preserved example of a late-medieval walled city, with a regular street layout. Among the outstanding medieval, Renaissance and Baroque monuments within the magnificent fortifications and the monumental gates to the city are the Town Hall (now the Rector’s Palace), dating from the 11th century, the Franciscan Monastery with its imposing church, the extensive Dominican Monastery, the cathedral, the customs house (Sponza), the eclectic appearance of which reveals the fact that it is the work of several hands over many years, and a number of other Baroque churches, such as that of St Blaise (patron saint of the city).

Excellent congress programmes and a very long experience in this tourist segment make Dubrovnik the major Croatian congress destination. There are various ways of getting to the city: by plane ( Dubrovnik Airport ) directly from most of the European capitals, by bus, by car and by boat/ferry.

Here are some of Dubrovnik conference venues:

Rixos Libertas Dubrovnik Hotel

Hotel Dubrovnik Palace

Hotel Lapad

Radisson Blu Hotel at Dubrovnik Sun Gardens

and many others, which can be found here
